Hikes in the Hills

The Hollywood Sign as it appears from a trail ...

When we have free time my husband and I love to go for hikes in the hills surrounding Los Angeles.  There are lots of places to go for a quick day hike nearby.  Recently I went on a hike in Runyon Canyon.  This park is right in Hollywood.  One of the spots I hiked to in Runyon Canyon was used for the taping of a Seinfeld episode that took place in Los Angeles.  This spot had beautiful views of downtown and Hollywood and you could even see all the way to the ocean!  My husband especially likes hiking in Los Angeles because of all of the hills.  He really likes the adrenaline rush that comes from trekking up and down big hills, as well as the views from the top.

A Different Kind of Bird

For Thanksgiving dinner this year, my husband and I were celebrating by ourselves.  Instead of making the traditional holiday turkey, which would have been way too much food, we decided to roast a chicken.  It turned out nice and moist and delicious.  We made a gluten-free stuffing with lamb sausage to go inside the bird.  We also made homemade cranberry sauce in the crockpot which turned out really well and was very easy.  I also made a sweet potato casserole with brown sugar, homemade granola and chopped pecans.  We had a salad with tomatoes, cucumbers, onions and chives as well.  It was a fantastic meal and we had just the right amount of leftovers.

Saving Lives with Fire Extinguishers

Fire extinguishers can save lives. It is necessary to keep a fire extinguisher in the home within easy reach of areas where fires could be started. Kitchens are an excellent place to keep fire extinguishers. They are usually clearly located in public buildings and other areas. High quality fire extinguishers contain several commercial suppressant materials including water, baking soda, and gasses that can quickly smother a fire and keep it from growing in intensity or spreading in area. They are usually mounted on a wall for quick access, and directions are always clearly indicated on the outside of the extinguisher. Knowledge about this tool and access to its use can help anyone to avoid injury or death because of fire.

Happy New Year!

My favorite holiday is New Year’s Eve.  I love having a special time of year to reflect on everything that has happened in the past year.  I also like taking time aside to think about my goals for the upcoming year and what I hope to accomplish.  I like to spend time with friends and family when ringing in the new year.  It is a perfect time for sparkly decorations, special outfits, silly hats and fizzy drinks.  I love watching on television as people all across the world ring in the new year.  I also love having New Year’s Day to relax and watch parades and games on television while eating leftovers from the evening before

Do You Hulu?

Today I spent a lot of time watching television shows on Hulu.  We have a Hulu subscription which means we can stream television shows over the internet through our Playstation and onto the television.  You can choose television shows that recently aired, as well as television shows and movies that are a bit older.  We like to watch old television shows that we missed while they were on television the first time, like “Lost.”  The only downside of Hulu is that you can’t get shows from CBS on it.  Otherwise we really enjoy being able to watch what we like and have less commercials than regular television.

Little People… Are These Really Mine?

PYINBOGYI, MYANMAR - APRIL 27: Burmese childre...

I’ll catch myself watching my children, my son, in particular since he is older and more self sufficient, and catch myself wondering how on Earth I managed to have this little person. Could I really have birthed and helped raise him to this point? I’m only 23, so it’s very weird for me, who still thinks of myself as barely over a kid, to realise that I have a preschooler. A kid who can clothe himself, uses the potty, and make sandwiches. When did that happen? How did that happen? I remember him being born, and he seemed so tiny. Now I look at him, or hug him, and can’t hardly believe that he was ever in me. His little sister is still a baby, so my main ‘Oh, my GOD!’ with her so far has been when she started rolling over, and that she can support her own weight and push up to her feet when you’re holding her hands. I can’t even begin to imagine what I’m going to feel when she’s four, and the little dude is a nowhere near so little eight

The Town of Muncie, Indiana

Muncie, IN is much like a lot of other college towns across the country. We’re split into two towns, effectively, the part of town inhabited by and catering to the college students at Ball State University, and the half of town that is here and functioning all year round, college kids or no. A good deal of my city literally has completely different hours when school is on break and the young people are at home. I like it, anyway. I’d rather if our only pool hall wasn’t on campus, and we overkill the amount of both churches and bars, but I think that’s a midwest thing, it’s been the same in every city I’ve lived in. We’re not as much a party school as say OU in Athens, OH, but the people watching is still pretty good.

Clothes do NOT Make the Woman

A woman in a tube top
Image via Wikipedia

Today, I have worn a pair of bright orange sweat pants and a tank top (upon waking). I changed into a pair of Arizona Jeans and a rather vulgar/obscene t-shirt and a pair of well broken in NSS shoes. I have not put on socks at all, or even much in the way of underwear. I don’t have a need to show off brands or prove I can afoord designers. I look for comfort in my day to day clothes, though I do have my share of break your ankle stilettos. I find that when I wear my normal, slobbish clothes, I actual achieve more and manage my day better than when dressed ‘well’. Clothes are just clothes, and if I am acutely concious of them thge whole day, not much gets accomplished besides looking good. Give me my off-brand jeans and a couple tank tops and I’m happy. Well, I’d still need my heels, but that’s another story entirely.

My Idol, House, MD

If Dr. Gregory House was an actual doctor, I would be tempted to track him down at Princeton-Plainsboro Hospital just to sit and worship the man. I love the portrayal of House, played by Hugh Laurie, as a tortured and tormented genius that is just begging for a lawsuit. The conflict in the show, just in House, not even including the other characters, is enough reason for me to be a lifelong fan. When you add in an above average plot, and an interesting team of doctors, I am an all out, don’t touch the remote House is on, fanatic.

Flame

In our knowledge, fire is a chemical reaction. When this reaction happened it produced heat and light. Fire is very useful us. But sometimes it may lead into negative result that is when fire is happened in accidentally it will lead to damage, injury, up to death. To avoid this situation we have to think about fire safety measures. When we think about a new project like building, houses etc we should use this fire safety machines. Short circuit is one of the main reasons for firing in most of the situation. A high quality foam fire extinguisher is a simple equipment to control fire in small scales. If we cannot control the fire by using foam fire extinguisher we should inform in the fire force.
