Won the Lottery and Kept on Working

Winning the lottery would change a lot about my life, but it would not change my desire to continue working in my chosen career. The money would certainly be used to pay off bills, but new “toys” (an rv, a new sportscar, etc.). However, I feel that my career in education is not only a “job” but a calling. Therefore, while we would pay off bills, pass along some of our wealth to friends and family,  may accumulate more stuff and take longer summer vacations, my kids would still attend school on a daily basis and I would still report to work.

Check your carbon monoxide detector today

If you run gas in the home you will most likely be aware of the benefits associated with a carbon monoxide detector alarm. Unfortunately carbon monoxide can be emitted from your gas appliances such as the heater or stove in strong concentrations. In turn this can cause possible death and may cause a raft of other conditions. It will have an impact on the oxygen levels and may find it difficult to breathe if a vast quantity is released. A lot of households use an alarm to protect them from any hazards from arising. It is a terrific investment and is extremely easy to install. If you live in a fairly large house, for instance a two story you may want one for each level. They can even be installed in the bedrooms for peace of mind. No home should be without one. The alarms can simply be purchased online for a reasonable price.

Christmas – At Home

As a child, our family Christmas routine was to go to my dad’s parents’ home on Christmas Eve. We would rush home and get to sleep excited about Christmas morning. Early Christmas morning we would awaken from the excitement. We would wake our parents; and, after reading the Christmas story from Luke 2, we would gather around the tree for presents. One of those presents was always a new outfit from my mother’s mom. So, we would put everything away not long after opening gifts, get dressed up in our new clothes and go to my mom’s parents’ home. While the family time was always cherished, we always wished that we could stay home and explore our newly gained loot. So, as an adult, our tradition has been that Christmas day is at home. We welcome any of either family to visit us during the day, but our immediate family stays home on Christmas day.

Massachusetts or Austria?

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

Our honeymoon took my husband and I to Cape Cod in Massachusetts. It was a place that neither of us had ever been. We found a quaint little bed and breakfast and spent the week enjoying a variety of unique experiences including a whale watching adventure. We boarded a boat and spent the day watching sperm whales. However, if we had no time or financial constraints, we would have visited Austria. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is a musician whom I have always been intrigued by. If time and finance would have allowed, we would have spent our honeymoon exploring the place in which he lived and worked.

Motherhood

My single greatest achievement would have to be that of motherhood. As a little girl, I dreamed often of becoming a mother and spending time with little ones. I have given birth to two children and feel that being a part of the miracle of life (twice) as my greatest achievement and greatest honor. I feel privileged to have been given the opportunity to carry two very healthy children through two very healthy pregnancies. Now, as they are growing, I find it a great achievement each day to contribute to their growth as individuals. It is truly a great achievement to raise children that are independent, mature, and working towards excellence as they grow into young adults.

Mermaid by Choice

If I had to live underwater for two years and had a choice of “what” to be, I would choose the life of a mermaid. Mermaids are stereotypically very beautiful and well-featured. Additionally, the option to “surface” and experience the world above the sea from time to time would be valuable. This type of “best of both worlds” opportunity would allow me to experience life under the sea while not completely loosing touch with the current land-based world in which I live. During the time below the surface, I would strive to connect with other sea creatures and become one with the community beneath. While taking the time above the surface, I would share my experiences with those I spend time with.

Heaven is Real

Heaven is a real place with a real God. Heaven is a place of eternal life and a lack of sadness or sin. Individuals that have put their faith in God will go there upon their death and live in God’s presence for eternity. There will be mansions to live in and streets of gold upon which to walk. Each person will be known as they were known on earth but will be solely devoted to God (no need for familial relationships). The beliefs expressed in this article are based on a personal faith and trust in God and His holy word – The Bible. God, the father, sent His son, Jesus Christ to the earth. Upon His leaving the earth, the Holy Spirit was left to fill the hearts of those that believe.

Competition is Healthy, Until it Isn’t

Children playing Gaelic football. Friendly gam...

Image via Wikipedia

Most friends can handle a little friendly competition within the group but I am not so great at keeping it friendly. My competitive streak is a mile wide and my best friend likes to engage my competitive nature. I would like to talk to her about openly engaging in competition rather than pretending the other person doesn’t notice. If we played a friendly game of bowling, I would like to keep it friendly. We could accomplish this by joking more and focusing less. We both need to admit our need to be the best and learn to laugh about it.

Standing Against Peer Pressure

I have always surrounded myself with good people who have high moral standards and, as a result, have not been tempted by illicit drugs or many bad habits. Peer pressure is not always a negative thing. I have noticed lately that spending is highly influenced by your peers. If I am trying to maintain a budget, it becomes increasingly difficult to spend time with my friends without spending money. Last summer I avoided attending two friends’ weddings because I could not afford to go. I regret not going and wish I had given into the positive peer pressure of attending.
