Sunrise in Singapore

There’s nothing quite like getting up in the morning, looking out of your window, and seeing the sunrise on the city line. A light breakfast at the hotel, then off to the markets until early afternoon, having a brunch and an early-afternoon snack at the vendors. Maybe Chinatown, or Little India for the evening, then into the heart of the city to enjoy the night-life.  It’s 8,000 miles from my home, and yet the times I’ve visited it’s always felt like a place I could spend years exploring, and never be bored. The people are welcoming, and the city is packed. It’s a bustling, active metropolis.

Fire Prevention

There’s a number of ways to reduce the odds of having a fire start in your home, and an accompanying number of ways to slow or stop its spread. These include sprinkler systems or a fire alarm that summons the local fire department. There is one other thing that you can do, however, that–even if it doesn’t stop fires from catching–will, at the very least, stop the fire from spreading too quickly.
fire retardant is a handy thing and should really be kept around most homes. Simply spray it onto, for example, computer wires, and the things will have an extra layer of protection against the enemy that is fire.

Circuits and Screens

I am a bit of a nerd. If I had $1000 to spend at any store, I’d spend it at Frys. For that sum, I could build a new computer, buy an additional monitor, and get the drives for the Network Storage system I’ve been eyeing. I spend most of my life working at my computer, so having it be fast, responsive, and stable is a must. By upgrading my computer, I would be able to be more productive in my video editing, more creative in audio production, and more entertained in my gaming. After all, who doesn’t like pretty visual effects and big explosions?

The IT Monkey

Not every job I’ve worked has been in technology, but all my favorites have. I started doing video editing work when I was 14, though I didn’t start charging for it until I turned 20. When I was 17, I took a job working as a host at an Indian restaurant, which taught me both patience, and that I wasn’t particularly good at being a host at a restaurant. Simultaneous to the job as a host, I took a job working Helpdesk at a University. They never had much work, so I got bored, and moved to a helpdesk job at a robotics firm. 4 years later I’m head of social media, and one of the core Network Administrators for the company. Being paid to spend hours on Facebook and Twitter? Delightful.

Wandering Germany

If I could vacation anywhere, it would be Germany. My family is German, and I’ve grown up speaking and living like a German, but I’ve only spent a week there in the entirety of my life. However, everything I know of the culture, the food, and the people tells me it’s a place I would love to spend more time. The fresh bread from the bakeries in the morning, the crisp mountain air (depending on where you are, obviously), the common European meeting of old architecture and new, all of it makes me want to go there, be it for a weekend, a week, a month, or a lifetime.

Sexual Molestation

There are many things that people do not know about me. There are things in my life I do not want to talk about. Sexual molestation is one of them. I was only 8 years old when a family friend molested me in a closet. The person was a close family friend, a boy in high school, high honor student and was about to go to college. I really looked up to him and I really liked him. He invited me to play a game of hide and seek, and it turned very ugly. After the incident, he told me to keep it a secret and I knew it was wrong, but I did. I never told my parents, I thought I would be in trouble. Looking back, I wish I had told someone what happened to me but alas, the past is the past.  I am not sure what has become of that boy, but I hope he is remorseful of his actions.

What do I love about me?

I can honestly say that my best characteristic as a person is that I am a very reliable person and I work very hard in whatever I do. I volunteer for many things in my life and in my children’s lives. I volunteer at school, at my church and I am a Girl Scout troop leader. I am also going to college to become a preschool teacher. I can do all these things only because I am a hard worker and I am a disciplined person. People can always count on me to get the job done and I always deliver. It sounds cheesy to say but I do! I think my best physical feature is my face. I am not ugly, nor am I Miss Universe but I could turn some heads when I was very young. Having a pretty face can get you the attention you want to get some things done.  I have used my “charm” to get things I have wanted, and it’s sad to say that, but we all like a pretty face.

Baking with my daughter

Girl Scout Day Camp

Image via Wikipedia

My daughter spends most of the week in school, granted she’s only in Kindergarten- but her life is really busy. She goes to school, she has ballet class and she has Girl scouts. I also have a 2 year old and she takes up the majority of my time. Since I don’t get to spend a lot of time with her, I want to spend our time together doing something she loves. She loves to bake, we bake her favorite things, and these include bread, muffins, cookies and cake. We bake them to bring to church with us on Sundays. We also bake things for family and friends and for her Girl Scout troop. It is our special time we spend together and I really look forward to it.

The dangers of carbon monoxide

Many tragedies could be prevented by the installation of a carbon monoxide alarm. Carbon monoxide is produced by burning fuel, and in an enclosed environment the concentrations can become deadly. The nature of carbon dioxide is such that victims may be unaware that something is wrong until it is too late. People using portable kerosene or charcoal-burning heaters or machines powered by combustion engines like lawnmowers or cars can be incapacitated or killed by this silent danger. If you must use one of these carbon monoxide sources be sure to install a carbon monoxide alarm so that you will have advance warning and can evacuate the area of danger.

The Joys of after Christmas shopping!

The best thing about Christmas is the shopping that you can do after Christmas! I work as a substitute teacher at a preschool and I’m also a Girl Scout troop leader. I am not a hoarder, but I do buy things for next year. These things are usually craft related. I buy things like stickers, foam crafts and decorations I can use for next year. I also buy toys for sale that I can use for Toys for Tots the following year and for birthday presents for my daughter’s friends. I spent my whole weekend cleaning out at all of my favorite stores, they included Walmart, Target and Michaels craft store. I also buy Christmas clothes for my daughter, when they are a dollar a pop- you cannot beat that. In today’s economy and the way things are, if you can get something for good price- then why wouldn’t you?
