Many tragedies could be prevented by the installation of a carbon monoxide alarm. Carbon monoxide is produced by burning fuel, and in an enclosed environment the concentrations can become deadly. The nature of carbon dioxide is such that victims may be unaware that something is wrong until it is too late. People using portable kerosene or charcoal-burning heaters or machines powered by combustion engines like lawnmowers or cars can be incapacitated or killed by this silent danger. If you must use one of these carbon monoxide sources be sure to install a carbon monoxide alarm so that you will have advance warning and can evacuate the area of danger.
